1. PREAMBLE/OVERVIEW Readiness exercise -- diagnostic -- use questionnaire from edugains. (Rodrigo)
2. Set the learning goals for the Unit (this step is for the teacher/facillitators- should we identify all of these?):
    1. identify what Assessment AS learning is, distinguish this from Assessment FOR & OF learning
    2. OBSERVE AND Practice the process of USING LEARNING GOALS and creating success criteria TO MEET LEARNING GOALS (further discuss the idea of metacognition, being aware of what needs to be done and what options and choices are available to do it).
    3. OBSERVE AND PRACTICE CREATING SUCCESS CRITERIA THAT ARE IDENTIFIABLE, MEASURABLE, OBSERVABLE AND DEMONSTRABLE FOR MEETING IDENTIFIED LEARNING GOALS. (it is important to be able to self-monitor/regulate our thoughts and actions and keep focused on the best pathway (together we decide what that is) to achieve our goal
    4. CREATE ASSESSMENT TOOL (Group sucess criteria effectively) THAT USES ASSESSMENT CRITERIA TO DECIDE IF LEARNING GOALS HAVE BEEN MET(be able to self-evaluate the progress and take steps to change direction if, and when, necessary)
    5. TO IDENTIFY OPPORTUNITIES TO USE ASSESSMENT AS LEARNING IN CLASSES, SHARE THESE WITH LARGER GROUP
    6. USE ASSESSMENT AS LEARNING IN CLASSES
    7. IDENTIFY ONGOING NEXT STEPS FOR LEARNING TO USE ASSESSMENT AS LEARNING(be able to self-evaluate the progress and take steps to change direction if, and when, necessary)
    8. IDENTIFY AND PRACTICE A LAYERED CURRICULUM LEARNING EXCERCISE???
(teacher/facillitators -we need to allow the staff to ask questions/ clarify concepts and add thier own ideas here)
3. IDENTIFY FOCUS OF FIRST ACTIVITY (CLASS(ES)...Set the learning goals of first class:
1. Identify what Assessment AS Learning is,
2. Distingush this from Assessment FOR, OF learning
3. Create success criteria to meet the learning goal of identifying what Assessment AS learning is (Prompt:How will we
know that we can identify what Assessment As Learning is?)
4. Use these criteria to create an Assessment tool for identifying what Assessment AS Learning is.
5. IDENTIFY ONGOING NEXT STEPS FOR LEARNING TO USE ASSESSMENT AS LEARNING (Question for
teacher/facillitators- Do we want to use this goal? Or do we want to have them use our sucess criteria/method
of an exit card?)
(teacher/facillitators -we need to allow the staff to ask questions/ clarify concepts and add thier own ideas here)

4. DEVELOPING THE SUCCESS CRITERIA -- TO IDENTIFY WE HAVE MET #1
A. How will you know that you met the learning goals of Identifying what Assessment AS Learning is? How will we
know you have met the second learning goal (distinguishing AS from FOR, OF)? What more do you need before you
can do this? Communicate your thoughts to others in a small group of no more than four. Guiding question is: How
can we know we can identify Assessment As Learning and that we've therefore met the learning goal?
Work in small groups to identify possibilities.
Brainstorming Prompting Questions:
What exactly do I/we need to do to be able to identify Assessment AS Learning? -BE SPECIFIC-
(identify aspects of it? identify examples of it? describe it in detail? discuss it using identified characteristics and terms- if so which ones?, debate about it? apply it to general examples? apply it to my own curricular examples? answer test questions about it?)
What do I/we know about this already?
What options and choices do I/we need? (tech, group work, creative expression options)
What strategies could I/we use? (How will I learn this best?) discuss it? craft detailed opinions about it and argue about it in writing? craft a detailed opinion about it and argue about it in a debate? read more about it?, write about it? talk about it?, discuss it?, debate it?, see examples of it?
How do I know that I have been successful? [Do I need to create and use a tool and/or complete an activity? If so what will it look like (a checklist, a rubric, a rating scale, a presentation, a lesson plan, a test?)]
What might/will the assessment piece look like when implemented?
B. In your group, discuss what next steps you need to create fully comprehensive success criteria for Identifying what
Assessment As Learning is and develop an effective assessment tool using the success criteria you have
identified to ensure thatyou can sucessfully identify Assessment As Learning (group success criteria effectively -
consider possibly using Assessment Categories- and apply a meaningful measuring tool-consider creating more
than one instrument (Rubric, checklist, etc.)
C. Is there anything you feel you need to educate yourself about about A AS L?
5. Next Steps/Exit Card
